John Mayer Busted by Phone Texts, If Only It Had Happened Before Their Love Song Was Released

John Mayer didn’t seem broken up at all over his breakup with pop queen Katy Perry on Wednesday night when the singer-songwriter and notorious ladies’ man hit a Greenwich Village jazz club solo.

Sources say Mayer was looking worry-free at the Blue Note and stayed into the wee hours of Thursday morning to take in a show by pianist Chick Corea at the famed West Third Street venue.

Spies snapped a picture of Mayer smiling at the crowded club in a woolly sweater that looked like it came from the set of 1970s TV series “Starsky & Hutch.” Mayer posted a video of the jazz performance with the caption, “Helluva night.” He was later seen on Thursday looking scruffy in Soho.

We’re told Mayer and Corea have been recording together with other musicians, including producer-composer Steve Jordan, bassist Pino Palladino and trumpeter Wallace Roney. They were scheduled to appear on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” Thursday.

Reports have said that Mayer and Perry’s split was “mutual” and “extremely amicable,” but sources exclusively told Page Six that Perry wasn’t happy when she recently “found text messages on John’s phone from some random girl.” Mayer’s past reported conquests have included Taylor Swift, Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson.

Mayer and Perry have dated on and off since the summer of 2012, and earlier this month, rumors swirled that the pair had gotten secretly engaged when Perry was seen wearing a blingy ring on Valentine’s Day and recently in Europe. But on Wednesday, news broke that the two had broken up.

Perry has been traveling in Europe, where she’s also been dealing with some bad press over a video for her song “Dark Horse,” which offended some in the Muslim community by showing a burning Allah pendant.

The Oscar Pizza Guy is a Real Pizza Guy.

It was truly a special delivery when Ellen DeGeneres had a real-life pizza guy dole out slices to A-listers including Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts during last night’s Oscars ceremony.

The delivery dude, ID’d as Edgar from Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria, sauntered onstage with three pies before Ellen brought him down to the front row, herself carrying a stack of paper plates.

After Jared Leto and Co. got their cheese fix (in couture, no less), Ellen passed around Pharrell’s infamous hat for the tip.

Thanks to the generosity of Harvey Weinstein and Brad Pitt, nearly $300 was collected. No word yet on whether Edgar, who was cheered when he returned to the pizzeria, ever got the hefty gratuity.

The Oscars, an annual ceremony in which 90-year-old white dudes bestow awards to movies about gay and black people in order to feel good about themselves and further the illusion of cultural progress, took place last night. The show was, well, as boring as I just made it sound. Ellen brought the middle-of-the-road pleasant corniness you knew she would. Pink and Bette Midler performed. Shit was so boring I read The Two Towers during the acceptance speeches, but, to put things in perspective, there aren't many things more exciting than Sam and Frodo verbally sexting across the Dead Marshes for 50 pages. By now you know who dresses well and who doesn’t. There weren’t a lot of surprises here. The best part of Oscar night is seeing the jokes on Twitter and getting drunk enough to be honest about which 60+ actresses you would let gum you off.

And yet, the Oscars still captivate like no other award show can. We need that yearly reminder that movies are still important even though Oscar winners are more often seen on TV shows these days than in theaters. We need that reminder that Hermione grew up to be top 5 dead or alive. We need something to talk about after the Super Bowl and before the NBA playoffs. So, won't you join me in toasting the end—thank fuck—of award season?

“He is also a man!” wrote one YouTube user, while another posted “Great Pope Francis, I love you!”

“He wanted to say, ‘in this case’ - it’s a simple mistake made by a foreigner reading Italian, nothing more,” one Italian wrote.

Months of preaching about forgiveness appear to have saved the pontiff from being thrown to the linguistic wolves, allowing him to focus on his key message of the day.

Reflecting on Russian troops being deployed in Ukraine, the Pope made “a heartfelt appeal to the international community to support any initiative in favour of dialogue.”

27 Dead after Knife Fight on Train

A group of knife-wielding men attacked a train station in southwestern China on Saturday, leaving at least 27 dead and more than 160 injured in what the country is calling a terrorist strike, the official Xinhua News Agency said.

Four policemen were also injured in the mayhem, which broke out around 9 p.m. (8 a.m. ET) at the Kunming Railway Station in the capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province.

Yang Haifei, a local resident of Yunnan, told Xinhua that he was attacked and sustained injuries on his chest and back.

Yang said he was buying a ticket when he saw a group rush into the station, most of them dressed in black, and started stabbing people.

 "I saw a person come straight at me with a long knife and I ran away with everyone," he said, adding that people who were slower were severely injured.

"They just fell on the ground," he added.

Yunnan province Vice Governor Gao Feng held an emergency meeting at Yuannan No. 1 People's Hospital, where the injured are being rushed, and said that local hospitals have received 162 people.

Munchi and I have been friends for years, and I normally get a heads up on his releases, but it didn’t surprise me at all that he just randomly dropped an insane EP on a Friday night.  What did catch me off guard though is that this is a Rasterinha release, a genre that Brice andComrade were pushing before anyone else.  And a genre that most producers don’t quite have a handle on yet.  I guess that shouldn’t have thrown me for a loop either, now that I think about it.

Vol II: Rasterinha – Contos Do Caderninho Verde is the latest on Munchi’s Selegna imprint, and it has that raw emotion that we knew Munchi for before he became a household name. Loosely translated as “Tales Of The Green Notebook,” this project was inspired from a journal that he kept between 2009 and 2010.  The production is less aggressive and more musical than his last run of releases, and this is pulled off pretty flawlessly. There are only four tunes, and this only lasts 12 minutes, but it’s absolutely beautiful.

The man with the hair has been tucked at home for nearly a year just stacking content for his label and has a ton of shit in the the chamber for 2014, and the output has been ridiculous.  You can stream Vol II: Rasterinha – Contos Do Caderninho Verde below. Chipotle's First-Ever New Menu Item, The Vegan Tofu Burrito, Goes National

Chipotle does not often update its limited, but classic, menu. In fact, despite minor tweaks like adding brown rice and burrito bowls, in its 20-year history, the Mexican fast-food chain has never added an entirely new item. But today, after a year-long testing period in select locations, Chipotle is officially adding Sofritas--the official name for the shredded organic tofu braised with roasted poblanos, chipotle chiles, and spices--to its nationwide menu. So how did the humble bean curd win its slot on the Chipotle menu board?

"It was really ingredient driven," Chipotle culinary manager Nate Appleman explained to Fast Company. As Fast Company's Ariel Schwarz explained last fall, the burrito maker partnered with Hodo Soy for the main ingredient in the then-unofficial meatless taco filler. The Oakland-based company has amassed a hearty following for its tasty, organic, and GMO-free soy-based protein. Appleman, who worked in several Bay Area restaurants before coming to Chipotle in 2010, was one of those fans. Under his guidance, Hodo debuted at ShopHouse, Chipotle's Southeast Asian-style outpost, which opened in Washington, D.C. in 2011.

A little over a year later, Appleman started experimenting, mixing Mexican flavors with Hodo's tofu. Eventually, a chili-based recipe stuck. "We just fell in love with the product itself and came up with something that I think even if you're not a vegetarian or vegan, you could eat it and love it," he said.

That's one key reason Hodo's tofu appealed to Chipotle: It tastes better than "99% of the tofu products you'll find in the grocery store," as Schwartz put it, and it therefore may appeal even to carnivores. The chain restaurant had tested a vegan option, the Garden Blend, once before, and it did not meet that taste standard.

The current tofu-based recipe started out as a chorizo substitute and took a year to perfect; one of the final recipes contained honey, which would have DQ'd it for vegans. But Appleman realized Chipotle would miss a huge opportunity to appeal to a group of eaters that not too many fast-food behemoths even consider. And meat eaters so far haven't been deterred: Appleman says he has even seen people mix the tofu with chicken, for example.

All in all, customer feedback has been positive and tofu burritos, tofu tacos, and tofu bowls make up 3% of sales in restaurants, and that's with "very little marketing," added Chipotle's communications director, Chris Arnold. I, a meat eater who appreciates tofu, went to taste it with a vegetarian companion. We both happily ate our entire sampling. My colleague, Jessica Leber, applauded the texture. Tofu dishes can be spongy; Sofritas comes chopped up so that it almost feels like eating chorizo. As for the taste, it has a chipotle chili flavoring, which isn't overpowering, but it's there. So you have to like a smokier taste.

Beyond its tastiness factor, the inclusion of soy also fits in neatly with Chipotle's branding strategy. The chain's last few marketing pushes have highlighted its commitment to sustainable farming. Which is great, despite the unfortunate reality that Chipotle can't always get the ingredients it wants and often serves commodity meat.

Adding tofu to the menu might reduce that problem. "It could cut into the sales of meat and also maybe help reduce meat consumption," argues Appleman. He adds: "Growing soy is less harmful on the environment than raising a cow just because the earth energy it takes to raise a 2,000-pound steer versus soybeans is completely different." (For every 100 calories of energy put into producing conventional beef, you get only six calories back to eat. For the same 100 calories, raw soy yields 415 calories, according to a 2010 Mother Jones article.)

Sure, offering tofu might shift some meat eaters away from steak. Or, it might just attract the already converted to Chipotle, which would be good for business, but has less of a humanitarian ring to it. That second point is also arguable: Soy isn't that great for the environment. Although, to Hodo's credit, its creation is organic and GMO-free, making it a better bet than factory-farmed meat.

Plus, unlike grass-fed organic beef, the tofu will never run out. Before making Sofritas official, Chipotle worked with Hodo to ensure that it could meet demand without compromising quality. "We didn't want to take shortcuts and get a product that was not as good at the one that we started with," says Appleman.

Chipotle's new menu item raises one other important question for hungry burrito lovers: Now that they've cracked the seal for new menu items, does that mean we can expect some of those "secret" menu options to start appearing as well? Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like it: "We don’t recognize whatever you’re speaking of--'off menu items,'" said Appleman.
