Get ready, hockey fans: the 2015 Winter Classic will officially be held at Nationals Park.
The Post reports that an "agreement has been reached for Nationals Park to host the 2015 Winter classic on Jan. 1 between the Washington Capitals and Chicago Blackhawks, multiple individuals with knowledge of the situation said Saturday."
As previously reported, a D.C.-set 2015 Winter Classic has been in the works for months now, but nothing has been confirmed until now. Prior to settling on Nats Park as the venue, NHL officials were also looking at RFK Stadium, FedEx Field, and briefly entertained the idea of the National Mall, which would have been as awesome at it would have been impractical.
Although no official word has come from the team in regards to the Winter Classic, the Post says that an announcement will probably come within the month.
The last time the Capitals played in a Winter Classic was in 2011 against the Pittsburgh Penguins, which they won 3-1.
