Michael Jackson at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards

A hologram of Michael Jackson appeared tonight at the Billboard Music Awards, almost five years after the singer's death. Jackson's hologram was materialized sprawled on a shimmering golden throne amid a host of backing dancers both real and ethereal. Stepping away from the incorporeal backdrop, Jackson's hologram threw out a host of his signature shapes, moonwalking its way through pyrotechnics as it performed the singer's recently released Slave to the Rhythm. The song comes from Jackson's posthumous Xscape album, released this month, which is made up of unreleased material remixed by artists such as Timbaland.

Jackson joins a growing list of musicians — both living and dead — who have had their images projected onto stages for "live" performances. Janelle Monáe and M.I.A were able to share a stage in April, even though the artists were 3,000 miles apart, while deceased rappers Ol' Dirty Bastard and Eazy-E made hologramatic appearances at concerts in 2013. The practice of resurrecting dead artists for posthumous performances was popularized by the appearance of Tupac Shakur's hologram at 2012's Coachella festival. The likeness was created by visual-effects studio Digital Domain, which reportedly took four months to create the projection of the rapper at a cost of up to $400,000.

Digital Domain filed for bankruptcy in 2012. The companies that purchased the studio's assets had attempted to halt the performance of Jackson's hologram at tonight's awards. Hologram USA and Musion Das Hologram argued that the show violated their patents, but the show went ahead after a Las Vegas judge agreed that the technology was in the public domain.

The technology to project apparent holograms on stage has existed since the 16th century, and was given a name by British chemist John Pepper in Victorian Britain. But while the "Pepper's Ghost" illusion is not a new invention, the advent of lifelike CGI has only recently allowed us to resurrect celebrities and musicians, and to make them sing and dance for us on stage once more.

Meet Large Professor - Coming To The Lodge May 31st

Large Professor is the NYC based producer, DJ and MC that demanded the world’s attention from his work on the widely successful A Tribe Called Quest album, “Midnight Marauders.” But it was years beforehand that Large Processor, also known as Extra P or Large Pro, broke into the industry as producer and MC for the group Main Source.

Large Professor soon after became a full-time producer and worked with every monumental act in hip-hop from Big Daddy KaneEric B. & RakimMobb Deep, Grand Puba, and Busta Rhymes, to the Beastie Boys, Slick Rick, Common, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, and Gang Starr, while also serving as mentor and collaborator to Nas. Some say it was his legendary work on Nas’ forever classic Illmatic record that put him in the books as one of the world’s best hip-hop producers.  About.com ranked Large Professor #5 on its Top 50 Hip-Hop Producers list.

Whatever Large Professor touches seems destined to become classic and through it all, this Queens auteur continues to push the movement forward whether lacing others or blazing his own path. The Lodge At RedRocks is very excited to have Large Professor on Saturday May 31st for an exclusive DJ set.  Also on the bill is DJ Stylus of The Sol Power All Stars and localy acclaimed DJ/producer, SHARKEY. Rob Zombie covers Metallica hit 'Enter Sandman'

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., May 1 (UPI) -- Rob Zombie recently performed a cover of Metallica's "Enter Sandman."

The 49-year-old rocker was in concert Tuesday at the Myrtle Beach House of Blues when he and his band delved into the hit metal song.

Zombie's rendition was met with raucous applause from the audience, who sang along during the performance.

The musician had confirmed in April that his sixth solo album is currently in the works.

"We're really excited," he told Pulse of Radio. "We really felt that for ourselves as a band, the last record really kind of got back to something that I was looking for, and we were just excited to take it to the next level. When you're feeling inspired, you kind of want to go for it."

Zombie has also teamed up with American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis on an upcoming television series about Charles Manson. The project is in the early stages of development, and is envisioned as a limited series that will air on Fox.

Meet Cousin Cole - Coming To The Lodge At RedRocks May 9th

COUSIN COLE is a New York City based producer & DJ. His tracks are played by the top DJs in the world, from Diplo and A-Trak to Optimo and Todd Terje, and receive major prime time airplay on New York's Hot 97 in NYC and LA's Power 106.

I was first introduced to Cole's work when I heard his famous remix of Adele's monster hit "Rolling In The Deep," which I felt like every DJ in the world played that track for a good 6 months.  In addition, projects like the 2008 indie/folk mix CD "Tambourine Dream" -- featuring Cole's own remixes of artists like Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young -- led to tours around the world.

Cousin Cole has DJed around the world, playing with the likes of The Rub, Tim Sweeney, Jacques Renault, Shir Khan (Exploited), Eli Escobar, Nadastrom, K Swift, DJ Sliink, Bim Marx, My Cousin Roy, Sabo, and many more.

More recently Cole has put out two "So Emotional" EPs with Phi Unit, an entry in the White Light mix series, and a podcast for Modular records. His remix of the 1993 classic "House For All" by Blunted Dummies is coming soon on DJ Ayres & Tittsworth's label, T&A Records.

The Lodge At RedRocks is excited to have COUSIN COLE Friday May 9th for a very special evening with DJ MEISTRO of Sol Power All-Stars. Event page HERE.

NYPD’s Twitter campaign disaster spreads to LAPD

The NYPD’s comically disastrous attempt to create good will on Twitter turned into a coast-to-coast epic fail Wednesday.

Cop haters from New York to Chicago to Los Angeles all took to the popular social media site to bash their local police departments after reading about the online backlash New York’s Finest faced after the department naively invited people to post pictures of interactions with friendly cops on the Web.

“Lets help launch #myLAPD Thanks for the idea #nypd #myNYPD #LAPD,” wrote Gregory O’Bannon. “LAPD shot dead small 54-year-old homeless person Margaret Mitchell on 4th and La Brea. She was “armed” with a screwdriver,” tweeted Miracle Mile, using the hashtags #lapd and #mylapd.

“Just because #myLADP carries pepper-spray, doesn’t mean they USE pepper-spray…baton beatings are free, spray isn’t” tweeted Rudy Bucher in another shot at LA cops.

Oakland residents also weighed in using the hashtag #myOPD. “#myOPD planted evidence, routinely stopped and sexually assaulted women, and fired the whistleblower,” fumed a poster named elle.
